A major contributor to the increase in drug overdose deaths is the increasing presence of unconventional and dangerous cutting agents and adulterants that have been appearing in drugs in Dublin. In 2020, there was a surge in fake Xanax pills in Dublin that contained fentanyl, a powerful opioid. During a six-month period stretching from late 2019 to early 2020, the Columbus Fire Department administered naloxone to 1,609 people to save them from opioid overdoses.
Another issue that contributes to the drug problem in Dublin is its location. It is very close to both interstate I-70 and I-71. I-70 runs from Baltimore, Maryland to the middle of Utah. Baltimore has been a major hub for drug trafficking for several decades now.
