How to Find a Midwest Detox Center

When looking for a detox center, many people want to be close to home. That said, most individuals actually benefit from traveling in order to be removed from “people, places, and things” to start a new life of recovery. Even just traveling to another town or city for treatment can significantly help with triggers or apprehension about remaining in treatment. Being removed from temptation can allow individuals to completely focus on their recovery.

If you are in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, or Wisconsin and want to remain in the Midwest for addiction treatment, this guide will assist you in your search.

A Google Search

You can find many detox options with a simple Google search. However, be sure to do some due diligence before choosing one of these centers. Some facilities may appear when searching for addiction programs, but don’t actually provide in-house detoxification services.

Many facilities will refer you to another detox program or a hospital before transferring you to their facility for residential or outpatient treatment. If this be the case, all of the reviews you see may not be indicative of quality detox services. Find out where the detox will be provided and then look for the reviews of that facility.

Through Your Insurance Provider

Just like any other medical service, you can call the number on the back of your insurance card or use your insurance company’s website to find a covered or in-network detox program. This is another area to use some caution. Some facilities will say you are “covered” without a breakdown of the actual out-of-pocket costs. Some insurance plans will only cover a portion of treatment or require deductibles, co-pays, or out-of-pocket expenses.

By calling your insurance provider, you can get exact costs and a list of in-network detox centers in a particular state or region. If you have a detox facility verify your insurance coverage for you, ask the admissions coordinator if there are co-pays or deductibles to be met.

Most private insurance plans will provide coverage for out of state treatment. If you have Medicaid, only in-state treatment will be covered.

Low Finances? Try SAMHSA

The United States Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) offers an addiction treatment and detox locator. If you don’t have insurance, have Medicaid, or Medicare, this is a great option to find a quality midwest detox center.

What Happens in A Midwest Detox Center?

Your experience in detox will depend on the facility you are in. Most detox centers have a standard medical protocol for withdrawal management, but differ when it comes to amenities and clinical approach. Some detox programs may resemble a hospital while others will be a more residential type environment.

In medical detox, medications are used to slowly and safely remove substances from the body. This minimizes uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms while preventing seizures and other life threatening symptoms. Most detox programs are 5-14 days in length.

Some detox programs also offer holistic services as well, such as yoga, exercise, massages, meditation, and other therapies.

It’s also important to know that some detox centers only provide services for certain substances, such as benzodiazepines and alcohol. Others may provide more expansive services for opioids, prescriptions drugs, and stimulants.

At Ohio Addiction Recovery Center, we combine holistic, clinical, 12-step, and medical care to provide one of the most comprehensive detox programs in the midwest. Learn about the services and amenities at our Ohio detox center.

Is Detox Right For Me?

Detox is typically required when a person suffers from chemical dependency. Chemical dependency is caused by continued daily use of a substance. Some drug withdrawal can cause unformattable mental and physical symptoms while others can even cause life threatening symptoms, such as seizures, coma, or even death.

Detox may be right for you if you are using substances daily. If you experience physical withdrawal symptoms, it’s always recommended to seek medical attention. Never try to quit substances on your own or “cold turkey.”

The most common substances that require medical detox include:

  • Alcohol
  • Benzos (benzodiazepines), such as Xanax, Valium, Ativan, Klonopin, and others
  • Heroin & fentanyl (also known as fetty)
  • Prescription opioids, such as OxyContin, Dilaudid, morphine, and others

Are There Free Midwest Detox Centers?

Because detox is a type of hospitalization, it is not free. A detox center must have physicians to provide assessments and prescriptions as well as 24-hour nursing staff. For this reason, most people utilize insurance plans to cover the costs of detox, whether that is state-covered insurance or private insurance through their employer or the open market.

If you don’t have insurance but are eligible for Medicaid, some facilities may accept you on the basis of presumptive Medicaid. They can assist with the sign-up process to make sure you are covered for treatment.

How Much Do Midwest Detox Centers Cost?

Medical detox programs can have varying out-of-pocket costs depending on your insurance plans. Some insurance plans cover 100% the cost of detox. Others may require a deductible, a co-pay, or co-insurance. To learn exactly what your insurance covers, give us a call today at 800-481-8457. You can also verify insurance coverage through our text chat at the bottom right of the screen.

If you are looking to self-pay for detox, most programs can be in the range of anywhere from $4,000-$10,000 or more, depending on the length of stay and the particular facility. At OARC, we’re happy to provide affordable detox services and payment plans. If you aren’t a fit for our facility, our knowledgeable outreach team can help give recommendations for programs throughout the Midwest.
