How Much Does Rehab Cost?
Without insurance coverage, inpatient rehab could cost thousands of dollars, ranging anywhere from $1,000-$7,000 per week – or more for luxury facilities. Though it can sound expensive, an extended inpatient stay at drug or alcohol rehab is similar to the care at a hospital but with specialized services and 24-hour access to experienced staff, including physicians, clinicians, and nurses, which is reflected in the cost.
Because addiction is a complex disease, levels of care, treatment quality, and ultimately pricing can vary widely depending on the provider. For both treatment centers and families, cutting costs usually means sacrificing treatment quality, amenities, or both.
Factors that affect addiction treatment cost include:
- Inpatient vs Outpatient
- Length of treatment
- Whether medical detox is included
- Location
- Amenities offered
- Size of the program
- Staff-to-client ratio
- Experience and credentials of staff
- Food and diet accommodations
At OARC, we offer 5-14 day medical detox program and 30-45 day inpatient rehab. We boast various amenities, highly experienced staff, and a small census with a low client-to-staff ratio. These factors do increase our costs, but they also produce positive outcomes for our happy clients, which is always our top priority. Most families find that the benefits and return to health of their loved one far outweigh any out-of-pocket expenses.
Luckily, some of our clients do not have any out-of-pocket costs for treatment. Clients who do have out-of-pocket costs at OARC will be determined by:
1. Health Insurance Policy
Fortunately, health insurance plans do provide coverage for addiction treatment services, covering all or most of the financial burden. Most of our clients utilize private insurance plans through an employer. We are in-network with most insurance providers, which helps expand access to more Ohioans while reducing out-of-pocket expenses. Unfortunately, we are not able to accept many state-funded plans, such as Medicare. If you have a state-funded plan, we can often help suggest similar programs with availability.
When utilizing your insurance coverage, out-of-pocket pay is determined by your policy. You never pay more than a specified amount, and this cost will be the same from provider to provider unless they are out-of-network. Additional costs associated with a particular program pass through directly to your insurance company after your policy’s out-of-pocket requirements are met.
The factors that determine out-of-pocket expenses when using insurance coverage include:
- Co-pay
- Co-insurance
- Deductible
- Out-of-pocket maximum
Some clients do not have any out-of-pocket expenses when they choose an in-network provider. For others who have already satisfied deductibles or an out-of-pocket maximum, addiction treatment is fully covered without any other out-of-pocket costs.

2. Self-pay
For those who are uninsured or have a state-funded policy that we aren’t able to accept, some are able to self-pay their way through rehab. Though there are more cost-effective options and state-funded programs available, those who have the financial means to self-pay often prioritize treatment quality to ensure the personal attention they or their loved one deserve.
Our self-pay rates reflect our high standard of care and personal attention you or your loved one will receive. That said, our rates are still within the national average, offering competitive pricing for an above-average treatment program. But don’t just take our word for it – see our client testimonials. We were also ranked the top addiction treatment center in Ohio by Newsweek.
Self-pay rates at OARC are determined on an individual basis. Self-pay quotes will be determined by:
- Individual health factors, such as co-occurring conditions
- Level of care, such as detox or residential
- Length of care (our inpatient programs range from 5 to 45 days)
- Individual treatment plans identified in pre-admission assessments
- Custom accommodations

This is the best way to determine what finances will be required for treatment, as well as what options are available if you do not have the ability to pay. There may be payment plans, scholarships, or other opportunities.
At OARC, we typically request a 50% deposit upfront for self-paying clients. This allows our clients to ensure our program is the right fit for them before committing to the entire treatment plan.
Cost of Medical Detox
Medical detox is an acute high level of care that is often the first phase of addiction treatment. Detox aims to treat chemical dependency and the symptoms associated with drug or alcohol withdrawal. Most clients utilize their insurance plan to cover detox.
Because detox is a higher level of care than rehab, there are often more costs associated. These costs cover 24-hour nursing, physician supervision, medications, and clinical therapies. Inpatient detox centers usually range from $300-$900 per day, with a national average treatment cost totaling $5,000.
Some treatment centers include medical detox in the cost of a full residential treatment program. These facilities usually do not allow detox as a standalone service, and the cost may be included whether the client needs detox or not.
At OARC, we bill detox and residential rehab separately. We also allow detox as a standalone service. This gives our clients more flexibility if they choose to continue their rehabilitation at another program, such as a state-funded or outpatient program. Some clients may also want to continue treatment closer to home, or for another reason entirely. Whatever their reasoning, we offer treatment plans to meet our client’s needs.
Is Self-Pay Rehab Worth It?
Only you and your family can determine if self-pay is a viable option. Some families are willing to pay a premium for immediate treatment or to give their loved one the best opportunity for success. Unfortunately, many free programs have waiting lists. Additionally, due to income level, some individuals may not even qualify for state-funded options.
When weighing the pros and cons, families should consider what recovery would be worth to them. Though money cannot “buy” recovery, many would invest far more than the cost of treatment if it were possible. The one-time investment of effective addiction treatment could mean a lifetime of returns.
