Will BCBS Pay For Rehab?

How much Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield will cover will depend on your specific policy. Generally, BCBS only covers a portion of addiction treatment. Policyholders may have out-of-pocket costs, such as co-pay, deductible, or co-insurance, depending on their plan. That said, insurance usually covers the majority of treatment costs.

To understand your options and potential out-of-pocket costs, you can usually login into your BCBS portal or call the number on the back of your insurance card. You can also contact us and we’d be happy to check your benefits for you!

Blue Cross Blue Shield HMO vs PPO Rehab Coverage

Insurance coverage can sometimes be confusing. The types of facilities and providers you can see will be dependent on your plan. For HMO plans (Health Maintenance Organization) you are only covered at specific facilities that are in-network with your plan. If you have a PPO plan, you’ll have a wider range of options and can see out-of-network providers for a higher out-of-pocket rate.

Whether you have PPO or HMO, fortunately Ohio Addiction Recovery Center is in-network, so you can count on the lowest possible out-of-pocket costs without sacrificing treatment quality.

Because residential treatment has better outcomes than other forms of treatment, BCBS usually approves residential treatment. BCBS may cover inpatient rehab for:

Outpatient Rehab Covered by Blue Cross Blue Shield

Outpatient rehab is a level of aftercare at Ohio Addiction Recovery Center. Because outpatient treatment has significantly lower costs than residential treatment, BCBS sometimes approves outpatient care if residential rehab is not appropriate. When outpatient rehab is used for aftercare (a step down after completion of residential treatment), BCBS often approves because it improves outcomes for patients.

There are also multiple levels of outpatient treatment. These include:

Partial hospitalization (PHP): PHP rehab is a level of care similar to resiential treatment, where clients spend the majority of day in treatment groups and classes, but sleep at home or a sober living house.

Intensive Outpatient (IOP): In our Columbus IOP, clients engage in treatment programming 3 days per week, for 3 hours per day. This allows time for work, school, and other obligations.

Outpatient counseling (OP): Clients have one-hour sessions with a therapist, usually once per week.

Does Blue Cross Blue Shield Cover Mental Health Treatment?

Yes, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield policyholders will also have many options for mental healthcare. It’s estimated that half of individuals with a substance use disorder have a co-occurring mental health condition, which is referred to as dual diagnosis. Ohio Addiction Recovery Center is a dual diagnosis facility, which means our holistic treatment plans also address mental health conditions.

  • Saved my life. Taught me a lot. Learned from other residents and reconnected with my spiritual self. Seriously the best place to get help in Ohio. Don't be … read more afraid to pick up the phone. Almost all the techs and staff have been through a similar situation so they really understand. All voluntary and you can leave whenever you want. I suggest you stay at least two weeks. Good luck in your recovery journey. 💪 Stay solid.

  • Being my first time in rehab I was very nervous, however, that all went away within the first hour of being here. The facility is wonderful and the staff is even … read more better. They made everything so easy and comfortable. The counselors really care about you and your sobriety. You learn a lot and are given an eclectic array of tools to help you achieve long term sobriety and overall success in the real world. If you or a loved one struggles with addiction, this is by far the best place to go. The place isn't so structured that it's anxiety enducing and you feel stuck or trapped. Which was huge for me. However, it is still structured enough that you aren't just on your own and you redevelope discipline and structure in your life.
